How Dental Implants Can Boost Your Confidence and Improve Your Oral Health

Losing your teeth can hurt your self-esteem and oral health. Sure, 120 million men and women in the United States have lost at least one tooth, but in this case, there’s no safety or comfort in numbers. Millions of people hate having a missing tooth as much as you do.

Missing teeth leave a gap, leaving your mouth prone to infection and causing your remaining teeth to shift and weaken. Also, missing teeth cause embarrassment every time you smile and difficulty every time you eat.

Currently, we can’t clone new teeth. But we can replace them with dental implants that look and function just like the real thing.

Our dental professionals at SEDA Dental can replace one or an entire mouthful of teeth with dental implants. Here’s how these revolutionary prosthetics can boost your confidence and improve your oral health.

Dental implants look and feel like your natural teeth

Here’s a quick tooth anatomy lesson.

Each tooth comprises a crown (the part you see above the gum line), and a root (the part that grows down into your jawbone). The root anchors the crown in place.

Unlike dental bridges or dentures, dental implants fuse directly to your jawbone. The substitute root is a titanium screw that’s strong, non-corrosive, and biocompatible. The crown that attaches to the implant is made of porcelain or composite material.

Your dental provider implants the screw through your gum and into your jawbone, which eventually fuses with and grows over the screw.  A portion of the screw extends above your gum line and is fitted with an abutment cap, which is covered by the crown.

In the end, your implant looks and functions like a real tooth.

Dental implant benefits

Your real teeth stay in place, in part, because every time you chew, your jawbone is stimulated to create new cells, which keep it dense and strong.

When a tooth falls out, the bone underneath is no longer stimulated and can weaken. This makes surrounding teeth unstable, which can make them shift positions or fall out.

Like a real tooth, a dental implant transmits chewing pressure to your jawbone prompting it to keep making new bone cells. It’s the only tooth replacement that keeps your jawbone in a constant state of renewal. This prevents bone atrophy, which maintains the natural shape of your face and gives you a healthy, youthful look.

Dental implants offer a natural look

Dental implants give you a natural, healthy-looking smile. Grin all you like, and eat anything you want because dental implants don’t move or shift.

Implant maintenance is no different from the maintenance of your natural teeth. Brush and floss twice a day, and schedule annual checkups and cleanings with SEDA Dental.

Unlike dentures or bridges, you never have to soak your implants in a glass overnight.
